This is what Democracy Looks Like
To the Editor:
Justice, our children, and our money. All three of these will be affected by the choices we make in the upcoming Nov. 7 election. With all the attention being paid to the 2018 and 2020 elections in the media, we in Pennsylvania need to be reminded that we hold two elections every year and this is our time to select judges, school board members, town councils, auditors, tax collectors, and mayors who will have a greater effect on our lives in many ways.
The Democratic slate of candidates for these offices is extraordinary in its depth, quality, and diversity. I have met and talked with six of the candidates for judge and feel wonderful about their values, backgrounds, and commitment to a fair and impartial judiciary.
I am also glad to see so many women candidates at every level of government, and this election gives us a chance to elect and retain progressive, highly qualified women for local, county, and state positions. Their perspective is crucial, especially right now in America.
Our Wissahickon School District has risen to the top of state rankings and needs to continue on that trajectory with our four excellent Democratic candidates. They bring teaching experience, science, guidance, and administrative skills that can’t be matched.
Treat this election with the serious consideration you would give to a national election because it will be just as meaningful to your lives in so many ways. This is what democracy looks like.
